A quick glance at the Rockford non-conference slate this year might make you wonder if the new hire this past spring was Tom Izzo. The Rams are navigating a brutal first six games of the season, having already hit the road to play No. 2 Grand Rapids Christian while following that up with a home opener versus No. 9 Muskegon.
It didn't get any easier when a seasoned, unbeaten Spring Lake squad came calling Tuesday night.
The Lakers took an early lead and withstood perhaps the best two quarters of basketball this season so far from the Rams, pulling away with a white hot fourth quarter to steal a 56-46 victory.
Rockford had a balanced attack, led by Teague Farley's 13 and Ryan Gamm's 12. Jason Majerle and Tyler Brenner each chipped in 9 as well.
The Rams, now 0-3, play their next three games at neutral sites, starting with the Battle of I-96 this Saturday at Ottawa Hills High School. Rockford is scheduled to play the Williamston Hornets at noon.
